Tony Fry is the founder and director of The Studio at the Edge of the World. Tony is an internationally recognised design theorist, educator, and author. For several decades he has been at the leading edge of rethinking design towards it becoming a more viable force of affirmative change. He holds visiting and adjunct positions at the University of Tasmania and the University of Ibagué, Colombia. He was professor of design, Griffith University, Brisbane (2008-2014), the founding director of the EcoDesign Foundation, Sydney (1991-2001), Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, University of Technology, Sydney, (1998-2001); Honorary Research Associate, University of Sydney (1996-2001); Associate Director, University of Sydney National Key Centre of Design Quality (1991-92); Senior Lecturer in Design and Theory, Power Institute, University of Sydney, (1985-96). He has held visiting professorships, lectureships and fellowships at universities in Australia, Asia, Europe, North and South America. He has also run many professional development courses and seminars for the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (NSW, Queensland and Tasmanian Chapters). He is on the editorial board of a number of journals and a founder and contributor to Design Philosophy Papers (2003-2017).

Tony is the author of twenty books, has edited three, has essays in twenty-four collections and has over 200 published articles and conference papers. His most recent books are City Futures in the Age of a Changing Climate Routledge, 2014; Design and the Question of History, jointly authored with Clive Dilnot and Susan Stewart; and Steel: A Design, Cultural and Ecological History, jointly authored with Anne-Marie Willis, both published in 2015 by Bloomsbury, Remaking Cities: An Introduction to Urban Metrofitting, Bloomsbury in July 2017 and most recently, Unstaging War, Confronting Conflict and Peace,  Palgrave, 2019.

Anne-Marie Willis researches and writes on design and visual culture. She has taught at universities in Australia, Hong Kong and Egypt, including four years as Professor of Design Theory at the German University in Cairo. She is the editor and author of five books, most recently the Design Philosophy Reader (Bloomsbury, 2019). She has worked in design consultancy and the non-profit sector as Assistant Director of the EcoDesign Foundation, one of the organisations that pioneered sustainable design in Australia. Recent projects include curating an exhibition of historical photography shown in Cairo and Alexandria; and researching the relation between design and fiction with the School of English, University of Tasmania.
